Barrett L. Kime is Of Counsel to the firm in the Tucson and Washington D.C. offices. He received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Arizona, and is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and the Bar of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. His practice emphasizes representation of business and non-profit organizations and individuals in corporate matters, commercial and real estate transactions and litigation. Mr. Kime is certified as a Real Estate Law Specialist by the State Bar of Arizona Board of Legal Specialization, and is a graduate of the Arizona College of Trial Advocacy.
Early in his legal career, Mr. Kime became in-house counsel to, and Vice-President of, Lawyers Title of Arizona, and an officer of Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation, based in Richmond, Virginia. He then joined the Tucson law firm that would later become Corey & Kime, P.C.; he practiced in that firm’s Tucson and Washington, D.C. offices until he and his partner, Barry M. Corey, joined DeConcini McDonald in 2007.
Mr. Kime has worked in various areas of real estate law, including the law of real estate title and title insurance, title-related litigation, escrows and trusts. In representing business, non-profit and governmental organizations, Mr. Kime has provided counsel regarding operations across the United States. For example, as legal counsel to the Council of Independent Restaurants of America (Dine Originals), he has worked extensively with the national board of directors and chapter presidents in corporate matters and strategic planning (an assignment that has allowed him to enjoy the work of numerous Originals chefs around the country). Mr. Kime has also represented business, non-profit and governmental entities in acquisition and development of facilities using conventional financing and tax-exempt and government-issued bond financing. One of the projects in which he had significant involvement was the development of the Community Resource Center in Tucson, Arizona, a joint project of the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona and the City of Tucson.
Mr. Kime is a lifetime director of Travelers Aid Society of Tucson, and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arizona-Kazakhstan Partnership Foundation, Inc. His bar memberships include the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Court of International Trade. He is a member of the American Bar Association and its sections for Real Property, Probate and Trusts (Affordable Housing Committee) and International Law (Russia/Eurasia Committee).
